Pregnancy and Newborn Benefits

Pregnancy Benefits

  • Pregnancy is covered like any other sickness (subject to the $300 deductible and 80% coinsurance at a Network Provider or $600 deductible and 50% coinsurance at an Out-of-Network Provider).

  • The insurance portion of routine prenatal charges are paid by the plan after the baby is delivered. The physician should submit their global charges after the delivery. This means your physician may ask you to pay your portion of the charges during the time you are pregnant.

  • The Student Health Center on campus does not provide prenatal care.

  • You may choose a provider of your choice. If you choose a provider who is part of the UniCare network, your charges will be paid at 80% after your $300 deductible; an Out-of-Network Provider's charges will be paid at 50% after your $600 deductible. To find the name of an In-Network Provider, call 1-800-333-3304 or check out the web site at: http://AHPCare.com/unco.

  • If you need an ultrasound or other special testing during the pregnancy, you may submit those charges at the time they are incurred.

  • Maternity coverage will include coverage for inpatient care for a mother and her newly born child for a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours after vaginal delivery and a minimum of ninety six (96) hours after delivery by cesarean section.

Newborn Coverage

  • When a baby is born to a covered student or covered spouse while the student's coverage is effective, the newborn is automatically covered from the moment of birth. This coverage will continue for 31 days without any premium cost.

  • The newborn will have a $300 deductible and covered expenses are paid at 80% at a Network provider or $600 deductible and covered expenses paid at 50% at an Out-of-Network provider.

  • Newborn, well baby charges while the baby is in the hospital and associated ancillary charges are eligible expenses (subject to the $300 deductible and 80% coinsurance In-Network or $600 deductible and 50% Out-of-Network).

  • If the student has no other covered children, enrollment and payment for the child's coverage must be completed within the 31-days following birth or the coverage will terminate for the child at the end of the 31-day period
