What Are Nurse Practitioners?

Nurse Practitioners are Advanced Practice Nurses. They are registered nurses who have gone back to school and have received specialty education beyond that of other registered nurses. This advanced education prepares Nurse Practitioners to assume responsibility for assessing and evaluating total patient needs and to provide comprehensive health care within their scope of training/education.

The Student Health Center requires Nurse Practitioners to have completed a nationally accredited educational program and to have passed a national certification examination of a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
