Welcome from the Chief
On behalf of the University of Northern Colorado Police Department, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our beautiful campus and the City of Greeley. I invite you to familiarize yourself with this site to learn more about the police department, area crime statistics and campus safety.
When you consider campus safety, it may be helpful to keep in mind that UNC is a busy community that regularly hosts faculty, staff, students and visitors. While most people don’t encounter problems on campus, I encourage each of you to take a common sense approach and apply reasonable safety precautions. This includes consistently securing doors (car and dorm/apartment/office), and valuables, being aware of your surroundings, using the “buddy system” when walking on/around campus, following the rules and laws of the community and reporting suspicious circumstances immediately.
The UNC Police Department is committed to providing a variety of services, all with the goal of enhancing safety. Some of the services we offer include: 24 hour a day vehicle, bike and foot patrols on/around all campus buildings and parking lots; alcohol, traffic and other target enforcement strategies; and educational programming. Additionally, the UNC Police Department has created unique partnerships with the Dean of Students, Department of Residence Life and surrounding law enforcement agencies. These relationships have been crucial to the implementation of several successful campus-community safety initiatives.
An equally important relationship that UNC PD promotes is our police-community partnership. It is not unusual for you to see police officers walking in and around the campus buildings and talking with community members. By working in concert with each of you, communication is augmented and safety ultimately enhanced. It is important to remember that crime prevention is an interactive process that requires collaboration. I know I speak for everyone in the police department when I say that we look forward to partnering with you to keep UNC a safe and enjoyable community for everyone.
Best Regards,
Wendy Rich-Goldschmidt
