Smith House, located right in the middle of the UNC Campus at 1007-1009 20th St., i.e., on the north side of 20th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues, houses the offices of most of the members of the Philosophy faculty. Prof. Hodapp is in fact the lone exception. His office is located next door in Weber House.
Smith House also contains the Russell Room—a seminar room frequently used for for our advanced seminar and for other small, upper-level classes. It is also used for meetings of the Coalition of Student Philosophers. You’ll find this room on the ground floor on the west end of the building.
A bulletin board containing postings of, among other things, information regarding job opportunities and graduate programs in philosophy is located in the first-floor hallway just off the seminar room.
Smith House is a converted residence, and its appearance seems to deter many students from simply coming in. Appearances to the contrary notwithstanding, however, it really is a public building. Come on over and get acquainted!
