Web Browsers & Viewers--Used to locate and display Web pages.
Email Client--A program which allows you to access your e-mail from a server. This process is known as "popping" your mail.
Mainframe Client--A program which allows you to connect to the enterprise server (mainframe--XDB).
Telnet Application--A program which allows you to connect to different servers (Blue, the Source, etc.) to use system features such as Pine, chatlines, and text browsers.
FTP Applications--A program used to transfer files between two networked computers. It is most often used to transfer files between your computer and the server, i.e. e-mail attachments.
Utilities
- Stuff-It Lite
StuffIt Lite is a shareware compression utility for the Macintosh. StuffIt Lite compresses files an average of 60%, creating a document called an archive. Archives save disk space, modem and network file transfers, and make backups easier.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
To view a portable document format (PDF) using Adobe Acrobat, you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 installed on your computer. Your system may already have this installed (you will know when you click on the link for the form and it opens adobe to read the form). If you do not have Adobe on your system, you will receive a prompt to save the form to file. If you receive this prompt, you will need to click on the link below to download the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Virtual Private Network (VPN) -- Software that creates a virtual private network connection to emulate on campus network functionality. Use this to access resources restricted from general internet users. It is most often used to access email with the Outlook client and files stored on network drives.
