About the Marcus Garvey Center for Black Cultural Education
The Marcus Garvey Center for Black Cultural Education was established in
1982 as a source of support for Black students on the campus of the University
of Northern Colorado. The staff and programs of the Center are designed
to "Challenge," "Support," and to increase retention
and graduation of Black students. Toward this end the Center has a number
of resources and ongoing programs.
James Kador
The director of the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center is James Kador, who is a new comer to the University of Northern Colorado. James Kador is from Baton Rouge, LA where he had a tough time growing up and experiencing segregation during his primary years in school. He worked hard, kept his nose clean, while staying out of trouble. He excelled in sports and after graduation he joined the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. Looking back on his struggles from school and his stint with the Corps, he knew he could do better for himself. He got a bachelor's degree in microbiology at Southern University in Baton Rouge, taught school and coached basketball for a few years; He returned to school and earned his Masters degree in administration. He received is doctorate degree from Colorado State University. Dr. Kador is extremely excited about joining the UNC family and wants to lead the Marcus Garvey Cultural Center towards a vision of becoming a model Cultural Center for the future.
