Facilities Management procured the services of several outside contractors to enhance our plumbing, lighting, and building automation systems to reduce University-wide electrical and water usage. Improvements include high efficiency electronic lighting ballasts, low-flow flush valves, toilets, and sink flow restrictors, and motion-activated light switches. While we have identified many areas for utility conservation, much of the responsibility lies within the members of our campus community. Please help to conserve energy and reduce utility consumption on campus by remembering to turn lights off when leaving a room, avoid wasteful water use, and maintaining a comfortable office temperature between 68 and 72 degrees (Fahrenheit). Speaking of office temperatures, it is the policy of Facilities Management to reduce building temperatures during breaks; during the evening and unoccupied hours for many spaces on campus, the winter temperature is to be set at 55 degrees unless prior arrangements have been made. The use of portable electric space heaters is generally discouraged, as these are energy-hungry appliances (and they're notorious for tripping breakers during peak hours), and their use must be approved by the Director of Facilities Management.
For detailed information about our utility systems and resource conservation efforts, please call 351-1978
