DIVISION 10 - SPECIALTIES
TOILET ACCESSORIES
- The following items are on state award and will be furnished by the University for installation by the contractor:
- Paper towel dispensers
- Toilet paper dispensers
- Liquid soap dispensers
- The designer will need to specify trash receptacles, mirrors, feminine napkin dispensers and any other required accessories.
ENTRY MATS
- Specify entry mats for all exterior door locations. Matting to be First step T by Lees Carpets, pattern L8512. Mat to be sized to allow a minimum of 2-3 steps on the mat prior to entering the area of finished floor. Provide a recessed aluminum frame where possible. Color selected by designer and approved by the owner.
CLASSROOM EQUIPMENT
- All classrooms should include marker boards. Prefer products by Claridge. Surface of marker board must be durable and easily cleaned without ghosting.
- The need for chalkboards will be determined for each project.
- Specify tack boards for main department offices and selected message centers. Location to be determined.
- All classrooms should include a projection screen. Screen to be properly sized to fit the room size.
AUDIO VISUAL REQUIREMENTS
- Specific requirements for classrooms will be determined during programming. Most classrooms will require wired instructors podiums per UNC standard design, data and video connections, provisions for ceiling mounted data projectors, an appropriately sized powered projection screen and room lighting controls integrated into the podium.

- Include interior signage, bronze dedication plaques and building directories in the project requirements.
INTERIOR SIGNS
- Signs shall be frameless design with rounded corners. Signs shall be multi-layered construction with a 1/8 thick back plate of black acrylic or PVC. The face plate shall be clear, non-glare acrylic with color on the reverse side. All layers to be bonded with extra strength double stick tape that is not visible from the exposed edges.
- Selected signs will have slider inserts. Face plate should be clear starting ½ from edge of sign. Slider insert should match the sign color and be of a thin sheet of PVC. Imprint slider with white lettering.
- All text shall be Helvetica medium type style. All test and graphics shall be raised 1/32 , in white.

Signs shall be mounted on the walls per
- Attach signs to the wall with foam double stick tape applied to the full length of all four edges.
- In general, sizes shall be as follows:
- Room number signs with Braille 8 X 4
- Multi line signs 8 X 8

Text or numbers for signs shall start in the
upper left corner, with Braille immediately below when required.
EXTERIOR SIGNS
- Most new buildings will a lighted, stone base building sign to match existing signs on campus. Requirements will be determined for each project.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
- Fire extinguishers and cabinets shall be specified by the designer. Sizes for fire extinguishers shall be as directed by the fire department. Extinguisher cabinets should be locking style with breakable glass and tool for access to the extinguisher.
WINDOW COVERINGS
- Window coverings will generally be included in the construction contract. Specify appropriate backing for installation.
- For classrooms, specify Mechoshade chain driven shades or equivalent products by Vimco.
- The preferred window covering for office areas is horizontal mini-blinds. Vertical blinds will be considered. Review requirements and proposed products with UNC.
TOILET PARTITIONS
- Toilet partitions shall be floor mounted, overhead braced. Partitions and mounting shall be heavy duty in all details due to the high levels of vandalism and abuse they will receive.
- Specify heavy duty hardware and continuous wall brackets. Integral hinges are preferred.
- Specify solid plastic toilet partitions by Santana, Comtex or approved equivalent.
