Building TradesLock ShopChad Dyer , Supervisor Click here for complete UNC- Lock and Key PolicyKey Issuance Policies & Procedures In order to protect campus and department security, we have developed procedures for key issuance and Card Access/ID card activation. All key issuance or card access privileges should be requested on a properly completed key card. It is important to realize that a key card is like a blank check; if it is signed by an authorized signer and handed on to a prospective key holder without first filling in the required information (listed below), the security of your department and/or the entire campus could be jeopardized. It is also important to understand that, for accountability purposes, keys should only be checked out by the person who will be using them; keys should not be checked out by one person and then passed on to other users.
Please do not write in the "Office Use Only" box. If a person needs a key similar to yours, write your key number on a separate piece of paper and attach it to the key card. We will look it up in our computer for pattern information to cut the key. Please have the keyholder wait until he/she comes to the Lockshop to pick up a key to sign and date the key card. Please be sure that the Keyholder has read, understands, and is willing to comply with the Contract printed on the back of the white copy of the key card. The Keyholder will also need to bring a picture ID, preferably the white UNC ID (this is required for Card Access/ID card activation) Card. ID cards will typically be activated within one (1) business day. We can no longer issue keys to anyone other than the person whose name appears on the key card. Keys may be checked out or returned during normal Lockshop hours, which are Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact:
