Independent Studies

Independent Studies

Independent Study (also known as correspondence or home study) is a form of distance education. Whether available as hard copy or a multimedia package, or fully accessible on the World Wide Web, all courses require a syllabus/study guide, textbook(s) or readings, and may include audio- and videotapes, CDs, e-mail exchanges, and phone conferences, as deemed appropriate by your instructor. The syllabus/study guide for each course outlines steps for completing course requirements.

We are privileged to have students enrolled from around the world. We are confident that your will find your course a challenging and rewarding experience to the extent that you make your best efforts, ask questions, and carefully observe procedures and policies governing Independent Study.

UNC has been a member of the Colorado Consortium for Independent Study since the 1970s. The Consortium currently comprises eleven public postsecondary institutions that offer a variety of credit and noncredit or certificate courses and programs via Independent Study. To view the offerings of other members of the consortium visit the website at www.coloradoindependentstudy.org .
