Foreign Student Responsibilities
The following list represents the most important
responsibilities you will have as an international student at the University
of Northern Colorado. Failure to comply can seriously affect your future
enrollment and your legal right to remain in the United States. Do not
hesitate to ask the Center for International Education (CIE) staff if
you have any questions.
- It is expected that you will take
personal responsibility for knowing and complying with all immigration
regulations affecting your visa status. The information you currently
need to know is outlined in this chapter. Read it carefully and if there
is something you do not understand, contact the Center for International
Education. It is your responsibility to periodically check with the
CIE for information on changes in the immigration regulations. The complete
text for the pertinent laws can be found at: http://www.uscis.gov
- Immigration regulations require
that you maintain full-time status as a student at UNC every semester.
Undergraduate students must enroll for a minimum of 12 credits each
semester. Graduate students must enroll for a minimum of 9 credits each
semester. No classes are required during the summer.
- Do not accept unauthorized employment. Consult with
your Foreign Student Advisor before accepting any off-campus employment.
- If you plan to leave the U.S., you must take responsibility
for making sure you have the necessary documents to re-enter. If you
are an F-1 student, make sure your Foreign Student Advisor signs the
travel validation on the back of your I-20 ID form. If you are on a J-1 visa, make sure your
Foreign Student Advisor signs the back of your DS2019.
- It is expected that you will take personal responsibility
for knowing and complying with all University regulations as specified
in the General Catalog. It is important that undergraduate students
are aware of all test requirements.
- Your data file at the CIE must
be complete and up-to-date at all times. Our office is required to keep
copies of your immigration documents and to know your current address.
It is required that you notify us when you change your address, major,
visa status, marital status, wish to transfer to another school, or
withdraw from school.
