Elementary PTEP Course Map
- The elementary PTEP is undergoing many changes as we phase out our old program and transition to a new format. The following chart will help you navigate which courses to take, depending on where you are in the program. If you have any questions, please make an appointment with IDLA to review your course of study.The following chart helps you determine which version of student teaching courses you must take. - This chart will help you determine which literacy, math, social studies, and student teaching practicum you will take. Description of courses:

EDEL 350 – Emergent Literacy (3): This course has taken the place of EDEL 360. It is a 3 credit course, where you learn about teaching literacy to primary students (grades K-2). It requires 2 hours/week of coursework on campus and 2 hours per week of tutoring in schools. 2.75 GPA required.

EDEL 445 Intermediate Literacy (3)/EDEL 446: Literacy Practicum: These is the follow-up course to EDEL 350. In EDEL 445, you will learn about teaching literacy to intermediate and upper elementary students (grades 3-6). It requires 3 hours/week of coursework on campus and 2 full days of Literacy Practicum in the schools (EDEL 446). You must register for both courses during the same semester! 3.0 GPA required.

EDEL 451 (5) – Integrated Literacy Methods I/EDEL 452 (3) – Student Teaching I: This course covers literacy instruction K-6. It meets two days a week on campus and students spend 2 full days in the schools. You must register for both courses during the same semester! 3.0 GPA required.

EDEL 450 (4) - Integrated Social Studies and Mathematics Methods I (4): This course meets for the duration of the entire semester and does not have a field component.

EDEL 453 (2)/EDEL 454 (10) – Full semester of student teaching and online math/social studies course: EDEL 454 is an entire semester of student teaching (16 weeks). EDEL 453 is an online component and must be taken concurrently. You must register for both courses during the same semester! 3.0 GPA required.

EDEL 470 – (9) Integrated Methods II: Math, Social Studies, Music, Art, and PE/EDEL 490 (5) Student Teaching Block II and Seminars: This is the “old” version of block II. The last time it will be offered is in Fall 2008. 3.0 GPA required.
