Educational / Specialist Application Reqirements

Successful candidates should meet the following criteria:

  1. Hold a baccalaurette degree from accredited college or university and have a grade point of 3.00 or better [4.00 point scale] on the most recent 60 semester hours.
  2. Have adaquate academic background in proposed area of specialization as defined by the program through which the degree is to be awarded.
  3. Twenty-four months (2 years) of appropriate work experience in the specialization as determined by faculty in the major.

Graduate School Requirements

  1. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. UNC Graduate School Application for Admission – available as a hard copy or on-line at http://www.unco.edu/grad/general/home.htm/. International students must fill out a hard copy application and provide other documentation .
  3. Non-refundable processing fee.
  4. Two official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate studies attended since high school.

Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Program Requirements

  1. A Master's degree from accredited college or university.
  2. Current vita or resume which documents professional experiences in education
  3. Professional assessment forms from two individuals, one of whom is qualified to provide a review of your academic ability,and one of whom may assess your professional ability. Additional forms can be downloaded below.
  4. Detailed statement which describes your:
    1. Demonstrated commitment to education
    2. Contributions to professional education
    3. Immediate and long-range personal, professional, and academic goals
    4. Rationale for pursuing the Ed.S. degree
    5. Strengths and weaknesses as they apply to educational leadership
  5. Documentation of publications of completed research projects, if available.

Application Materials to be Submitted

Materials to Submit to the UNC Graduate School:

  1. UNC Graduate School Application Form (U. S. citizens may file this form on-line or may submit a hard copy by mail; International Students must submit the International Student Application for Graduate Admission)

  2. Current vita or resume which documents professional experiences in education

  5. As part of your personal statement, you are also asked to provide a brief essay in which you identify and discuss a significant, current educational problem. Describe how you would attempt o solve the problem identified.
  6. Documentation of publications or completed research projects, if available.
  7. Complete the Applicant Background information sheet which includes the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least three (3) individuals who might be contacted to provide us with additional information concerning you academic ability and leadership performance or potential.
