Colorado Society of School Psychologists award a Northern Colorado Alumni "2007-2008 School Psychologist of the Year"
CSSP congratulates Charlotte (Char) Armstrong
for being nominated and selected to receive this
year’s prestigious “School Psychologist of the
Year” award. She received numerous deserving
letters of support from parents, educators, and
administration for her commendable demonstration
of integrity, dedication, and commitment
to children and the community as a whole
for her services at Lewis-Palmer School District
#38. Additionally, CSSP is honored that she will
be representing Colorado this February in New
Orleans, at the NASP conference, as a nominee
to receive the national school psychologist of
the year award.
Char has an extensive background of diverse experience, which has helped cultivate her expertise and contributions on both local and national levels. She has made an impact with her direct services to special education students for fifteen years. She served as a school social worker for seven of those years and as a school psychologist for eight years. Char has also presented at state and national workshops and conferences, has had administrative experience (including program development and evaluation of RTI), and coordinates the crisis response team for CSSP while also participating as a certified National Organization of Victim’s Assistance (NOVA) crisis responder. Her contributions were invaluable while organizing the crisis team’s response to the Katrina victims at Lowry Air Force Base and at Platte Canyon High School, in Bailey.
It is obvious to those who have had the privilege and opportunity to work with Char that she has been instrumental in providing outstanding leadership, direction, and support to the Colorado community at large. Char has been deemed absolutely indispensable in her research, grant writing, professional publications and teaching of curriculums as well as, collaborating with various regions and agencies around the state to plan and provide the training and funding to school mental health professionals. Under her leadership, our training curriculums expanded beyond our original core curriculums to include several specialized trainings in threat assessment, suicide assessment, and best practices in violence prevention in the schools. She also guided and supported our Colorado crisis team’s contribution to the new National Association of School Psychologist’s crisis curriculum (PREPaRE), which has now been added to our CSSP team offerings across Colorado. As a direct result of Char’s outstanding leadership, CSSP is proud to have her as a highly respected representative for all school psychologists throughout Colorado and our nation.
