With the Wells Fargo Free Checking Account, UNC students have all the convenience and buying power of a traditional checking account. UNC Students will receive an account which can be used as their primary checking account. Students will also have the convenience of direct deposit of both financial aid and student payroll.

Wells Fargo Free Checking Account - Students can use the Financial Services for all their banking needs. Students will have unlimited check writing capability, at no charge. There is no minimum balance requirement and no monthly fee.  Visit a Wells Fargo UNC banker for additional benefits.

Direct Deposit of Student Payroll and Financial Aid - Students receiving financial aid and payroll will have their funds automatically deposited into their Wells Fargo Free Checking Account.  To set up direct deposit to an alternative bank, please see the UNC Card Office.

ATM Access - Students can use their UNC Card as the ATM card throughout the world for access to their Wells Fargo Free Checking Account. As long as he ATM machine is operated by Wells Fargo, there will not be any fees. For added security, a 4-digit PIN is required.

Point-of-Sale Purchases - Students can also use their UNC Card instead of a check at locations both on and off campus wherever STAR and Interlink purchases are accepted. These networks require a 4-digit PIN for all purchases and increases the security of the student's money. Anywhere there is a scanner at the checkout, students should be able to use their UNC Card and the amount of the purchase will automatically be deducted from their free Wells Fargo checking account.

Savings Accounts - Students may open a Savings Account to compliment the Wells Fargo Free Checking Account. Transferring money from one account to another is as simple as a phone call or thru on-line banking.

Wells Fargo Visa Credit Cards - All students can apply for a Wells Fargo Visa Credit Card. Applications are at the Wells Fargo Customer Service Branch located in the University Center. Overdraft protection is provided with the Visa card (subject to qualification) to the students Wells Fargo Checking Account.

Account Transfers/Deposits - Students, parents, and relatives with or without Wells Fargo accounts, may transfer or deposit money directly to the student's Wells Fargo account at any Wells Fargo Bank.   Wells Fargo telephone number:  970-351-4723.
