Sexual Harassment

What is sexual harassment?

Sexual harassment is unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, when:

• You are expected to accept this conduct to get or keep a job, a promotion, or a grade. Or
• The conduct interferes with your performance at work or school. Or
• The conduct creates a hostile, intimidating, or offensive environment.

Examples of Sexual Harassment

• Unwanted touching, pinching, or patting;
• Comments about your body, clothes, or sexual activities;
• Subtle pressure for sexual activity;
• Obscene gestures;
• Derogatory remarks about one's body, clothes, sexual orientation, or sexual activities;
• Repeated brushing up against your body; and
• Requests or demands for sexual activity with threats about your job or grade.

What To Do If You Are Being Harassed

• Tell the person harassing you that the behavior is unwelcome and unacceptable, very clearly and firmly.
• Don't ignore it, because it may then increase in frequency and/or severity.
• Document each incident with dates, times, places, and type of behavior.
