Admission requirements:

University of Northern Colorado fall campusFall 2008

An index number of 94 or higher, and meeting the HEAR requirements below. In addition, students must clear the UNC application question regarding crime history, (traffic violations are an exception).

Admission requirements for all entering freshman for the fall 2008 and thereafter and 2010 terms now exist. The Colorado Department of Higher Education has instituted new admission standards and full details can be read online.

In addition to the 94 index, students must have:

  • 4 units (years) of English
  • 3 units of Math
  • 3 units of Natural/Earth Science (two courses must have lab work)
  • 3 units of Social Science (at least one course must be in U.S. History and/or World History)
  • 2 units of Electives
  • 15 total college prep units

Fall 2010

  • 4 units (years) of English
  • 4 units of Math
  • 3 units of Natural/Earth Science (two courses must have lab work)
  • 3 units of Social Science (at least one course must be in U.S. History and/or World History)
  • 2 units Foreign Language (must be from the same language)
  • 2 units of Electives
  • 18 total college prep units

Admission requirements apply to both in-state and out-of-state students.

Admission exceptions

Eighteen percent of freshman applicants can be admitted if their index is below 94.

Home school students are evaluated individually. Transcripts, ACT and/or SAT scores are required for all home school applicants. The Colorado Commission on Higher Education has mandated that home school students be assigned the GPA reported on their transcript for admission.

Admission exceptions are handled on an individual basis for indexes below 94.

Early application is highly encouraged.

Term Changes

If you apply as a freshmen, do not attend Northern Colorado or any other college and change your enrollment term within one year of the original application date, no additional application or processing fee is required.

Admission materials needed

  • Application for admission - apply on-line
  • Official high school transcripts (Don't forget to have a final high school transcript sent to UNC Admissions once you graduate.)
  • ACT or SAT scores
  • $45 processing fee. The $45 fee is waived for all freshman applicants who have at least a 112 CCHE admission index.
