Academic Support and Advising

Scholastic Standards

Academic Support and Advising has designed a program specifically to help students on academic probation (students who have less than a 2.0 GPA). Our goal is to help students overcome obstacles and set off again on a strong, successful academic path. Students on academic probation are required to:

  1. Attend at least one appointment with a scholastic standards advisor in the ASA each semester of probation. Review the Academic Standing Policy. Write down and bring with you any questions you may have. Failure to meet with your advisor leaves a hold on your account that prevents you from registering for the next semester.

Advising is mandatory prior to registration. Advising assists students in identifying difficulties and to develop a plan of action to quickly return to good academic standing. Students on academic probation are recommended to:

  1. Meet with a scholastic standards advisor for a series of appointments throughout the semester, based on the following schedule, for increased success. Our statistics have shown that the more a student meets with his or her advisor, the higher the cumulative GPA will rise!
  2. Schedule your first appointment with a scholastic standards advisor in the first four weeks of the semester to identify campus resources for classes, clarify questions about the Academic Standing Policy, complete Scholastic Standards Contract, and calculate term GPA needed to achieve good standing (greater than 2.0)
  3. Schedule your second appointment prior to the individual class withdrawal deadline (March 7, 2008) to review mid-term grades in classes, predict final grades, and complete Explore Your Class Schedule.
  4. Schedule a third appointment a few weeks before the end of the semester to predict final grades, talk about registering for the coming semester, and review potential suspension information.
